Airfirst MRO Facility, Muritala International Airport (MMIA), Lagos - Nigeria

Description:

This MRO facility was designed for a leading Aircraft Maintenance Organisation - Airfirst Nigeria Limited. The project site is adjacent the Runway 18L threshold of the Muritala International Airport (MMIA), Lagos Nigeria. The project is phased into three;

(a) The Apron,

(b) The Hangar

(c) The Admin Building, and collectively form the Airfirst MRO Centre.

The Project design, completion and usage is also in phases. The hangar is a 70m clear Span, A- Frame steel structure design, to admit mid -size  aircraft specifications for maintenance activity. It is flanked on one side by associated offices, and facility for charter air operation.

The world’s renown Butzbach hangar doors are incorporated in this hangar design in a unique way, to facilitate the site  contained hangar. The hangar doors are smartly designed to roll and pack on the sides of the hangar to clear the 70m opening. Facilities such as the Non Destructive  test (NDT) laboratory, Battery Centre, Upholstery Centre, central Engine parts Store etc are accommodated in a partial basement level, which directly open onto the hangar level via heavy duty lifts and a Stair case. The operational/technical Offices all open into the hangar on one side.

The Admin centre is the frontal part of the building, and open to all users via its car park. Within the 4-storey admin centre are lettable aviation servises  offices, the Central catering centre for chartered flight operations, and short/transit stay hotel accommodation  for pilots and aviators on the topmost floor. The mini hotel also pride a common lounge and gym centre.
