Proposed Value-jet Maintenance Hangar

The proposed Value-jet Maintenance Hangar is an A-Frame, 10 tonnes; two-way gantry

and modular steel structure offering a total footage area of 4200sqm, and held together

by coordinated steel sections in a deliberate modular dimensions and grid system.

The hangar prides a 68.2meter clear span aerodrome access, and schemed to receive;

side by side; 2nos CRJ-900 aircrafts, and also the famous Boeing 737-800 series, in

optional parking arrangements. The central 3000sqm flexible indoor hangar space for

aircraft maintenance activities, is flanked on either side by technical offices and

workshop facilities. It also features a central aircraft storage facility, and a 3-classrooms

flying school amongst other components. The flying school is designed as an integral

part of the maintenance facility, as such share a common administrative and access

route with the hangar staff.

On the aerodrome aborting façade of the maintenance facility, the world’s most popular

Butzbach hangar doors are tactically incorporated. The PVC prism cladded doors span

the entire clear opening of 68.2m, and neatly packs into a purpose designed doors cavity

on either side of the façade. The flying school and the Operation Control Centre (OCC)

of the maintenance hangar, both exit on either side of the aerodrome façade to the

airfield.

Whatsmore? The Maintenance facility afford the tactical possibility of lateral expansion

on its landside façade, and is also dissected by escape routes in the advent of

emergency exit from the hangar.

The exterior physiognomy of the proposed facility is dynamic, and exudes the aviation

identity of the Air Transport Organization (ATO). Its deliberate play of forms and colour,

coupled with the functional integration of mechanical and electrical services both in its

interior and exterior, will no doubt make the proposed development, the aesthetic and

aviation pride of the newly commissioned agro-cargo airport.
