Mile I Market - Diobu, Port-harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria

Description:

This is an extensive  market scheme, and delivered by Rivers State Government in construction phases.

The market scheme offers 2200 traditional lock-up shops in varying  modular sizes for all cadre of shop owners. The lock-up shops are categorised into small, medium and large, aside purpose designed sheds  for daily-perishable sales by peasants.

The shops all open into a 1800mm wide single banking shoppers way and  bounded by balustrade walls.  The shops are set out on a large grid-iron planning concept. Each block of shops terminates on each floor with male/female toilet facilities, stair hall and an electrical panel room at its rear end.. Shops at the topmost floor are deliberately  walled to the roof to confine fire within any particular shop in the event of fire outbreak.

The grid-iron layout of the overall development also offers alternating large  open court yards for natural ventilation and day-lighting of the entire development. Ramp-ways and bridges also defined the pedestrian/shoppers connectivity in the entire development. The vehicular Ingres, exits and parking is also well integrated in the entire scheme on the ground floor. The phase I market opened for business in 2008.
