Proposed Cottage Hospital, Ikot Abasi - Nigeria

The proposed Ikot-Abasi Cottage Hospital is a purpose designed rural medical facility, and presented to the community by an Oil-service company, in compliance with the company’s policy on corporate social responsibility.

The facility features basic medical facility/building components and presented in a typical courtyard design.  The operating theatres form the hub of the design, about which other facilities revolve.  Medical/admin offices, pharmacy, record and central reception areas are featured in the front/approach block of the design. The frontal block together operates as the out-patient department of the rural medical facility

The wards (Male, Female and Children) are flanked around the central courtyard. The entire rectangular block is bilaterally bisected at the rear by a delivery bay for medical supplies. The courtyard itself is latitudinally transverse by a long-covered corridor, and alternatively aborted on its sides by building block of multifaceted medical departments. Two central Theatres with changing/scrubbing facilities and stores are centrally located within the core of the courtyard, and also directly connected in four direction to other facilities in the complex.

Other ancillary facilities in this modest presentation are located outside the Courtyard design. These are the

housing units for medical officers, the facility maintenance units, the fuel depot and waste management units.

On the approach of the facility is an extensive parking facility and designated walkways for vehicular and pedestrian circulation.

The projecting is visioned to deliver cheap and affordable medical services to residents of the project location and  environs.
